2026-10-07Health needs in Darfur significantly outstrip available resources amid ongoing attacks on healthcare.
The World Health Organization is calling for an urgent increase in resources and unhindered humanitarian access to address severe health needs in Darfur. Data indicates that since April 2023, there have been at least 794 incidents of violence or obstruction of access to healthcare across Sudan, including damage to facilities and harm to health workers. The national Minimum Expenditure Basket (MEB) without top-up increased by 8% compared to July, reaching 746,869 SDG.
Attacks on healthcare facilities and personnel continue to pose a significant threat to the provision of essential services. Funding for the humanitarian response remains well below requirements, exacerbating the resource gap for critical sectors like health.
Over 45 million people, including those in Sudan, face severe hunger due to conflict, displacement, and climate pressures. Health needs in Darfur are particularly acute, with resources unable to meet the growing demand, especially in Taw.
The specific number of people affected by the increase in the Minimum Expenditure Basket and its impact on household purchasing power is not detailed.
